Henry Oldknow
Surgeon
Subscriber: 4/3/1816 to 6/6/1836.
Committee: 1824, 1825.
He signed the Library Rules (1816-1830).
He was named as a Trustee of Bromley House in the minute and document of 1/4/1822.

Following his enquiry the Medical Society was allowed to rent a room at Bromley House occupied by the mineralogical cases for £10 per annum exclusive of candles, coals and all other expenses. (6/9/1824)

He was Agewise in the pamphlet The Literary Mousetrap published on 14/2/1829 satirising the debates that were taking place at Bromley House Library.


Henry Oldknow
Subscriber: 5/12/1836 to 5/11/1838.
Henry Oldknow was named as a Trustee of the Library in 1858 but no one of that name was listed as a subscriber. (Russell, 1916)


Sir James Oldknow
Lord Mayor of Nottingham: 1877-78 and 1878-1879.

In 1878 the Mayor of Nottingham and T.R. Starey requested that coloured lithographs illustrating Robert’s Holy Land be lent to the Corporation for exhibition at the Castle Museum for six months on condition that the Corporation insure them for £100. (4/3/1878)


Octavius Thomas Oldknow
Subscriber: 5/2/1816 to 19/12/1817.
He signed the Library Rules (1816-1830).

On 3/10/1859 it was agreed that he was allowed to consult books in the Library.


Thomas Andrew Oliver
Lace manufacturer.
Address: Southfield House, Bramcote.
Subscriber: 10/4/1888 to 7/4/1903.
Share number: 161 (counterfoil dated 9/2/1901).
Committee: 1899, 1900, 1902.
He purchased an original share and a sum of £1 0s 0d was received on 11/4/1887 as commission on this.
Book Committee: 1899, 1902.
Magazine sub-committee: 9/10/1900.
He wrote on 10/3/1903 to resign from the Committee as he was leaving the neighbourhood.

Subscriber: 3/3/1851 to 4/10/1858 and 7/5/1860 to 11/11/1861.
The Standfast Ledger records nine borrowings between 16/1/1843 and 10/11/1855.

Mrs Orock or Mrs Allcock
The Share Interest Book shows that she held six Bromley House Debenture Shares from January 1859 to January 1860 and then three shares up to January 1861 when they were transferred to a Mrs Carter.

Samuel W. Oscroft, Esq. (1834-1924)
Address: 27 Chaucer Street.
Subscriber: 5/2/1895 to 1916.
Share number: 162 (counterfoil dated 9/2/1901)
His father was a lace manufacturer and Samuel was an artist who designed lace curtains.


W. Oswald
Subscriber: 7/11/1882 to 1/4/1890.
He bought an original share for £50 and the subscription was to be paid up to 1/4/1883 (6/11/1882)

Mr Owen
In 1857 of the 39 candidates who applied to replace John Walton, twelve made the first short-list and then six, of which Owen was one, received detailed consideration (7/12/1857).

On 9/6/1880 they were invited to submit samples for the new catalogue.
They seem not to have done so and were thus unsuccessful.
